Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Review

As mentioned earlier, we picked up Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol at the store the other day and have been having a blast playing it. Can you handle the pressure? Are you the next American Idol?

In the game, there are two game modes, Karaoke and Idol. Karaoke is much like other versions of Karaoke Revolution where you sing at the beach, Vegas, rooftop or whatever and have a good time. This game really shines when you enter into the American Idol competition.

First off, you create your contestant. Pick your look from your skin tone to your sunglass and then get ready. You’re first stop is the auditions with Simon, Randy and Laura. Laura is who’s taking Paula’s place and looks a bit like Paula. The background is just like you see in Idol auditions and at the end, you are judged. If you sang well, you’ll get good mentions. Pitchy? Well they’ll tell you that too. And, if by chance your singing is horrible, they won’t let you go to Hollywood or Simon will surely tell you to never sing again.

Karaoke Idol
After that you make your rounds from that first round with the basic stage to the final grand finale stage, the sets are represented really well. As you go along in the competition though, you can be cut at any time. Ryan Seacrest also appears in the game, but only as a voice. He comes on when it’s decision time much like on TV. Only in the game, he’s not quite so mean with long pauses and commercial interruptions.

An interesting note, other Idol contestants have names like Kelly, Bo, Rubin, Clay and Carrie. Their picture doesn’t match, but you are competing with the best.

As you rack up points and do well, you’ll unlock Idol video clips. Contestants from every year singing the songs represented in the game. And they are not all good. William Hung appears in a video clip along with a bunch of other horrible Idol auditions. But don’t fear, great clips from Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Fantasia Barrino, Kelly Clarkson and many others are there. Even some Idol faces that you may not quite remember like Justin Guarini.

The only thing really missing from this game is Paula Abdul. She’s been replaced by some Laura character and only shows up in the video clips. However, her Straight Up does appear on the song list for the game.

The only downside to the game is the freaky tongue action. I know that sounds weird, but when the judges are giving feedback, the tongue is really odd. Not sure who forgot to fix that code.

Overall the American Idol game represents the TV show very well and I’d highly recommend it to any fans. Randy says Dawg a lot and Simon will insult you for singing bad but that’s just how it is. I’m not the best singer, and I’ll never be an American Idol, but this is fun.

Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol is available for Playstation 2. Since Playstation 3 can play PS2 games, it should also work with PS3.

Grease is Almost Too Similar to Idol

Picture 1

While waiting for the Simpsons to come on tonight, I caught a bit of Grease: You’re the One that I Want on NBC and had Idol flashbacks.

Lets see, three judges with two men and a women. They come up on stage with numbers on their shirts to sing and get judged. They had quite a few bad ones mixed in with a few good ones. Overall, it seemed like an Idol copy.

Ok, so I know that they can’t be completely original, and that they do have a dance competition also, but come on. They made it look and feel like American Idol auditions. I guess you gotta go with what works.

Overall, I think that Grease: You’re the One that I Want is a cool idea. The producers build up the show and let the public pick Sandy and Danny and then when it hits broadway, the voting public buys tickets and it’s a hit show. I guess it’s almost a given. It’s just if the public wants to re-do Grease for the 1000th time or not.

Are you addicted to it yet?

American Idol Karaoke Revolution Hits Playstation 2 & 3

While out at Walmart last night, I found American Idol Karaoke Revolution! Complete with Randy, Simon and, umm, Laura?! That’s right, Paula doesn’t make an appearance.

You get to go from the audition stage to the finale in hopes of becoming the next American Idol superstar! So far I’ve been praised and criticized by Simon, made it to Hollywood and voted out of the competition. It’s a lot of fun and I’ll return soon with a full review. 🙂

Chris Daughtry Rocks on First Album

Daughtry AlbumIf you liked Chris Daughty on American Idol, then you’ll love his first album. Daughty was released on November 21st and it’s fantastic.

Chris keeps his style and doesn’t disappoint on his first album. He even partners up with the rock group Slash. Ok, so I have no idea who they are, but they are featured on Chris’ album.

Fans agree that Daughtry is a great album. Out of 306 reviews on Amazon, it’s got four and a half stars! iTunes listeners agree also giving the album four and a half stars with almost 2000 reviews!

As track number one says “it’s not over” and this is just the beginning for Chris Daughtry.

Don’t Piss Off Carrie Underwood – Before He Cheats Video

When the Carrie Underwood CD came out last year, the song that surprised everyone the most was Before He Cheats. The pretty and seemingly quiet girl showed us her attitude and let us know that she could do more than just ballads.

It’s the track that stood out on her CD and also is the one that people like most. It’s fun, it’s sassy and it shows that Carrie Underwood is not just some pretty little blond.

If you haven’t seen the video yet, your in for a treat. It’s great and shows that you never want to piss off a woman.

Hollywood Puts the Adult in Katharine McPhee

Katharine McPheeWhat is it with Hollywood these days? They need to turn every female singer into some sort of slutty looking sex icon and Katharine McPhee is no exception. Her first album cover shows her in knee high hooker boots with no pants on and her legs spread open.

Now, I was a big Kat fan and wanted her to win instead of Taylor Hicks, but the transformation from Idol star into Hollywood star is not something I’m quite sure I’m on board for.

Checking out Kat’s MySpace page, they are also labeling her music Pop & R&B. R&B? What? Since when? The cool thing about her MySpace page is that you can listen to three of her upcoming songs. All of which lack the Katharine McPhee sound we heard on American Idol.

I guess it’s to soon to judge, but I’m worried that Hollywood has turned Katharine McPhee into some sort of eye candy and left her talent and natural beauty back on the Idol stage.

Thoughts?
